Groove Soul Band, steel pan master Leon Foster to perform at jazz concert
MIAMI GARDENS – Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan’s Music in the Park concert featuring Groove Soul Band and Leon Foster Thomas will be held on Friday, December 6, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, 3000 NW 199th Street, Miami Gardens, FL 33056.
The Palm Beach County-based group Groove Soul Band has opened up for Najee at the Sunrise Theatre and had the pleasure of playing for soul singer Betty Wright and R&B singer Tank. The group also was honored to be the headliner band for Bobby Jones at The Sunrise Theatre. The Groove Soul Band is made up of singers, songwriters, and musicians who perfectly blend blues, R&B, smooth jazz and Motown music.
Leon Foster Thomas is a gifted international jazz musician and steel pan virtuoso whose music is a blend of his Caribbean roots with the harmonic and improvisational complexities of jazz, creating a lively and eclectic meld all his own. Thomas has a Bachelor of Music degree from Florida Memorial University and a Master of Music degree at Florida International University. Having two well-received solo albums under his belt, his latest release, Metamorphosis, on Ropeadope Records, exemplifies his growth and maturation as a musician.
The concert is sponsored by the Miami-Dade Parks Foundation, Miami Gardens Councilwoman Katrina Wilson, the Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Department, the Sunshine Jazz Organization, and the Office of Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan.
