Commissioner Jordan to dedicate center honoring civil rights icon Rev. Dr. Edward T. Graham

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan will host a public dedication and renaming ceremony on Monday, Feb. 3, at 10:00 a.m. at 16405 NW 25th Avenue to rededicate the Miami Gardens Community Resource Center as the Reverend Dr. Edward T. Graham Neighborhood Center.

Graham was a civil rights activist and pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Miami who helped bring about integration in Miami-Dade. He also founded the Urban League of Greater Miami and was among Miami’s first black city and county commissioners.

“By bearing Rev. Graham’s name, this center will pay tribute to a civil rights icon whose life had such a tremendous impact on our community,” said Commissioner Jordan, who sponsored the October 2019 resolution that renamed the center, which offers a range of activities including job development assistance, temporary financial aid, and summer camp program scholarships for low-income youth.
