Vice Chairman Gilbert accepting applications for Summer Youth Internship Initiative


MIAMI-DADE – The Office of Vice Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III, is now accepting applications for the Summer Youth Internship Initiative. For over 15 years, District 1 has granted young people in the community opportunities to gain valuable experience while earning income through summer employment.

Created by then Commissioner Barbara Jordan in 2005, the Summer Youth Internship Initiative (SYII) is a wonderful opportunity for deserving young men and women of District 1 to acquire important business skills and gain exposure in real-world business environments. District 1 is committed to providing invaluable work experience and employment opportunities for young talent who will become our future business leaders. Business partners hire one or more deserving and capable high school and/or college student(s) for 20-40 hours a week. High school students will earn a minimum of $10 per hour and college students will earn a minimum of $12 per hour. To be eligible for the program, interns must be between 16 and 23 years old.
