Chairman Gilbert announces 2024 Student Expedition Trip to Washington, D.C.

MIAMI-DADE – Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III will host the annual Student Expedition Trip for high school students to Washington, D.C., from Monday, March 25 to Friday, March 29, 2024. The purpose of the annual expedition program is to broaden the horizons of youth and widen their knowledge base and understanding of the world around us. Last year’s trip allowed students to visit and take in the history and culture of New York City.

Students who reside in or are attending high school in Miami-Dade County’s District 1 are encouraged to apply to participate in the 2024 Washington, D.C. expedition. This program will include visiting the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Mall, and other significant monumental attractions to expose and educate students about our country’s government.

“Washington, D.C. is not only the capital of the United States but also a symbol of our republic. Our youth need to see first-hand that democracy is not just a word, but an idea that evolved into a dream that changed the world. By exposing our youth to Washington, D.C.’s rich culture, they will be able to not only see democracy in action but also experience history that will inspire, motivate, and enrich their future,” said Chairman Gilbert.

The deadline for students to apply is Friday, Jan 26. Applications are available online by visiting www.miamidade.gov/district01. For questions, more information or to submit a completed application, please email [email protected].
