Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III Successfully Spearheads Expansion of Paid Parental Leave

MIAMI-DADE – Today, Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III successfully led the passage of a landmark ordinance that doubles paid parental leave for Miami-Dade County employees. With this change, more than 30,000 employees are now guaranteed 12 weeks of paid parental leave, giving new parents critical time to bond with their children without financial worry.

“This change is a significant step forward for our county, our employees, and our community,” said Chairman Gilbert. “By expanding paid parental leave, we are investing in the wellbeing of our workforce and their families and strengthening Miami-Dade’s commitment to being a supportive and compassionate employer.”

Chairman Gilbert emphasized that this policy is about more than just time off; it’s an investment in family values and in Miami-Dade’s future. With this ordinance, the county stands as a leader in family-centered workplace policies, setting a powerful standard that should be emulated across our region.
