Chairman Monestime honors Congresswoman Wilson at Frederica Wilson and Juanita Mann Health Center renaming ceremony

L-R: Certificate presentation and Frederica Wilson and Juanita Mann Health Center ribbon cutting ceremony

(MIAMI-DADE, FL) – During the ribbon cutting ceremony of the renaming of the Liberty City health center on Sept.2 at 2520 NW 75th Street, Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Jean Monestime presented Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson with a Certificate of Appreciation. Due to her tireless and ongoing activism for the underserved and uninsured population, it was only fitting that the building would display Congresswoman Wilson’s name along with the name of Juanita Mann, better known as Nurse Mann, who was a healthcare provider who dedicated her life to help care for indigent residents.

“This new facility marks the beginning to the revitalization of the Poinciana Industrial Park and I am thrilled to be here speaking to you this morning as this clinic was promised to this community more than two decades ago,” said Chairman Monestime. “In 2009 out of a pledge of $12M, then Senator Frederica Wilson was able to secure $2.5M for the construction of this facility and in July 2011, I sponsored a resolution conveying this parcel of land for the building of the clinic. In September 2013, at the groundbreaking ceremony here, I not only re-affirmed my commitment to this project but also made it clear that this health clinic will serve as a point of light for better things to come and will bring much-needed jobs to Liberty City.”

The Frederica Wilson and Juanita Mann Center Health Center renaming was approved by the Board of County Commissioners on December 2014 and Chairman Monestime was the Prime Sponsor of the resolution.

“Today, we are honoring two movers, shakers and educators within Miami-Dade County, two ladies who have worked very hard to reduce health disparities, and strengthen health services that serve minority populations,” added Chairman Monestime. “They have made a profound impact on the community, especially during the times when resources and opportunities are limited. I know Juanita Mann’s spirit is here and is watching with a satisfying smile over this ceremony”
