MIAMI, FL – Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Jean Monestime is inviting the community to experience the magic of Haitian culture, art, music and food by participating in the County’s 16th annual celebration of Haitian Heritage Cultural Month.

“Haitian Heritage Cultural Month is a wonderful opportunity for residents of every nationality and background to come and experience the richness of Haitian culture,” said Chairman Monestime, the first Haitian-American elected as Chairman of the County Commission. “I encourage everyone to take part in this celebration of all the contributions the Haitian community has made to Miami-Dade County and the world.”

Chairman Monestime kicked off the month-long celebration on May 1, with six Haitian art exhibits opening at Miami International Airport, South Terminal Gallery, the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW 1st Street; the Little Haiti Cultural Center, 212-260 NE 59th Street; the Center for Haitian Studies, 8260 NE 2nd Avenue; the Haitian Heritage Museum, 4141 NE 2nd Avenue; and Sant La Neighborhood Center, 5000 Biscayne Blvd. #110. The art exhibits will run through the month of May.

Other highlights of this year’s celebrations, which feature the theme “Haiti: See It, Live It, Love It,” include the Fourth Annual "Taste of Haiti" featuring Haitian cuisine at City of North Miami MOCA Plaza, the 18th Annual Haitian Compas Festival at Bayfront Park, and the Fifth Annual Haitian History Bee at the Stephen P.
