Vice Chairwoman Edmonson’s statement on soccer stadium deal
MIAMI – “Today, after many concessions and several community meetings, Miami-Dade County approved the sale of County-owned land located in my District to the Beckham Group for the purpose of building a Major League Soccer stadium. While not the perfect deal, this was by far the most promising stadium relationship this County has seen. There are no public dollars attached, and the group will not only become a contributing taxpayer but also a community partner. As many concerns were raised by my constituents in Overtown, I unabashedly addressed each one with careful consideration. In the end, the Beckham group diligently worked with me and the Administration to address every concern and included all of the provisions and benefits in the contract. It is my hope that children of all ages get an opportunity to learn about this international sport and not only get a chance to play but a chance to witness this amazing sport right in their community,” Miami-Dade County Commission Vice Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson said.
