Chairwoman Edmonson to kick off Park and Recreation Month
MIAMI – The lobby of downtown Miami’s Stephen P. Clark Center has been transformed into a pop-up park, complete with a bike lane and nature-based graphic panels resembling a lush outdoor landscape. The verdant scene will be the backdrop for Miami-Dade County Commission Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson and other County commissioners and officials as they celebrate National Park and Recreation Month at a kickoff event on Wednesday, July 10 at 9:45 a.m.
America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month since 1985.
This year’s commemoration of National Park and Recreation Month coincides with the 90th anniversary of the County’s Parks Department, the country’s third largest parks department, with 270 parks spread across the county.
“Parks play an important role in our neighborhoods and in our lives,” Chairwoman Edmonson said. “They make communities healthier, happier and more prosperous.”
