Commissioner Eileen Higgins and City of Miami officials to host Farm Share in East Little Havana

MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins and City of Miami officials will host a Farm Share food distribution event on Saturday, March 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Jose Marti Park, located at 351 SW 4th Ave., Miami, FL 33144.

In a concerted effort to assist families in need within the East Little Havana area, Commissioner Higgins has united over a dozen Little Havana-based non-profit organizations that will offer participating families a host of social services, including immigration counseling, information on how to become an American citizen, and ways to improve your health.

“With this new alliance of local organizations working side by side with the residents of East Little Havana, we will achieve great progress on issues that are vital to the community,” Commissioner Higgins said. “I am energized and excited to be working alongside such talented and dedicated people.”

The Farm Share event features a walk-through distribution of fruit, vegetables and other nutritious food at no cost to residents on a first come, first served basis. Those who wish to participate need to bring their own container or bag. In addition to the food distribution and social services by local non-profits, residents also will enjoy a host of activities, music, children’s activities and raffles.
