Commissioner Eileen Higgins to host “SUPERSIZE Saturday” to combat food insecurity and recognize Hunger Action Month with three food distributions in District 5

MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins, District 5, will host three food distributions tomorrow, September 19, 2020, to benefit residents in District 5 and recognize Hunger Action Month. The food distributions will take place in Flagami, Little Havana, and Grapeland. “SUPERSIZE Saturday” will distribute fresh food boxes to 1,300 households in District 5.

The events are a continuation of Commissioner Higgins’ partnership with Unity Groves in the “USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program” in which they have already distributed over 28,000 boxes in District 5. Commissioner Higgins is grateful to also collaborate with Feeding South Florida this Saturday, which includes joining their Hunger Action Month initiative. Hunger Action Month is a nationwide initiative to encourage communities to stand together against hunger and dedicate themselves to finding a solution.

“Although the County is reopening, residents who have lost their jobs or have taken serious pay cuts continue to struggle,” said Commissioner Higgins. “It’s important that we do not leave them and their families behind. I’m grateful to our network of community partners who’ve joined me in addressing food insecurity and helped to connect us with residents in need.”
