Commissioner Eileen Higgins’ statement on priorities as Chair of the Transportation, Mobility, and Planning Committee (TMPC)

MIAMI-DADE – “Since first elected, I have brought the perspective of a true transit rider to the dais. I am proud of the work I have done to improve mobility countywide, and I’m honored to continue this work as Chair of the Transportation, Mobility and Planning Committee (TMPC).

“As Chair, my top priority is getting people moving. I will continue fighting for transit solutions that take us more places and for neighborhood streets that are safe for pedestrians and cyclists.

“My goals are as follows:

Advance the Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) plan and make progress our rapid transit corridors. This includes prioritizing our bus network by implementing the Better Bus Project and moving forward on the Bus Rapid Transit projects already underway.

Improve the transit rider experience by keeping riders safe and upgrading our transit systems.

Create safer streets and transit-oriented neighborhoods including moving forward with a pedestrian-first transportation master plan and transit-oriented development near future and existing transit hubs.

Implement technology that will improve the travel times for our residents.

“I’m ready to act on transit now. For more information, read my framework for this committee at http://bit.ly/tmpcgoals.”
