Building Code Amnesty Program extended through July 2020

Miami-Dade County — On November 19, 2019, County Commissioners unanimously adopted legislation from Vice Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa granting an extension to Miami-Dade County’s Building Code Amnesty Program through July 12, 2020.

The Amnesty Program provides qualifying homeowners who have code violations on their primary residence with a reprieve from receiving further fines as they bring their property up to code.  This program applies to properties located in the unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade County.

Since the program’s inception, it has helped over 4,400 homeowners and provided over $46 million in relief. By extending the program, County Commissioners are also helping buyers of distressed homes with multiple code violations to bring such homes into compliance and thereby improving safety and the overall property values of homes in Miami-Dade County.

“We must do all we can to continue providing relief to the homeowners of Miami-Dade County as they bring their properties into compliance,” said Vice Chairwoman Sosa.
