Vice Chairwoman Sosa works with League Against Cancer to offer free Mammograms
(MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL) – Vice Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa is partnering with the League Against Cancer to offer free mammograms to 30 women from the district she represents.
The program is open to uninsured women over the age of 40 who have not undergone cosmetic breast augmentation via the introduction of an implant. Individuals interested in receiving a free mammogram exam should contact the Office of Vice Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa at (305) 267-6377 before February 28, 2020. The League will be screening patients and scheduling their appointments.
“Early detection of cancer is incredibly important to successfully fighting it,” said Vice Chairwoman Sosa. “That is why I am sponsoring this program. As a breast cancer survivor, I know how difficult it is to deal with cancer and want to do my part to help as many women as I can get screened.”.
Background on the League Against Cancer
The League Against Cancer was founded in Florida in 1975. Lourdes Aguila (1932-1999), served as General Coordinator from 1975 until her death in 1999. The League Against Cancer was modeled after a similar organization that began in 1925 in Havana, Cuba and grew to include a world-renowned oncology center and operated until the Cuban Revolution in 1959. Lourdes Aguila’s lifelong dedication to this cause made the League Against Cancer the unique organization that it is today, serving as an intake and treatment facility for individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer. Once determined to be eligible for services, patient receive the appropriate services at no cost. Services are provided at the League’s own facility, in private physicians’ offices and at local hospitals.
