Commissioner Sosa advocates for the Right Trees planted in the Right Places

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – On Tuesday, June 2, 2021, County Commissioners unanimously adopted legislation, sponsored by Commissioner Rebeca Sosa, establishing County policy requiring that staff, as well as contractors who are responsible for landscape maintenance be adequately trained on proper tree care and maintenance. Additionally, the legislation calls for County inspectors to also be trained, so that they are able to assess the quality and species of trees to guarantee that the correct species and quality of trees are being planted pursuant to existing requirements.

“Trees not only make Miami-Dade County beautiful, but they are also vital to our community’s resiliency and wellbeing,” said Commissioner Sosa. “We need to make sure that our staff, contractors, and inspectors are properly trained to identify the right trees for the right places so that our tree canopy can be robust and resilient.”
