Commissioner Sosa moves to include siblings in Ethics Ordinance

On March 15, 2022, Commissioner Rebeca Sosa advanced legislation revising the Miami-Dade County Conflict of Interest and Code of Ethics Ordinance. The legislation will now head to committee assignment for further consideration. Commissioner Sosa’s legislation would include siblings in the definition of immediate family, that already includes spouses, domestic partners, parents, stepparents, children, and stepchildren. Including siblings would align the Ethics Ordinance with the definition of “immediate family” in various provisions of state law, as well as with common dictionary definitions of the term.

“Our residents deserve an ethical government they can trust,” said Commissioner Sosa. “By including siblings in the definition of our ethics ordinance, we are demonstrating our commitment to integrity and a fair and just process.”
