Commissioner Sosa advances legislation to expedite DERM permit review processes

MIAMI-DADE – On July 7, 2022, County Commissioners adopted legislation sponsored by Commissioner Rebeca Sosa to improve and expedite the process for review and approval of DERM (Department of Environmental Management) permit applications and requests for approval. The legislation stipulates a 10-day window for initial review and a final decision within 21 days for straightforward applications. More complex applications should have a final determination made as expeditiously as possible. Furthermore, Commissioner Sosa’s resolution calls on the administration to create a framework for categorizing applications based on complexity and straightforwardness, training staff on making the process more streamlined and efficient, and providing greater information to applicants.

“I thank my colleagues for supporting this important piece of legislation that will greatly benefit our community,” said Commissioner Sosa. “Homeowners and businesses deserve a quick and efficient DERM permitting process, especially when undertaking projects that can improve the health and safety of our environment.”
