Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera announces passage of resolution implementing First-Time Homebuyers Program and Housing Assistance Program for Miami-Dade County employees

MIAMI-DADE – Today, the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners passed a significant resolution sponsored by Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera aimed at addressing housing issues in our community.

“Given the current shortage of affordable and workforce housing in Miami-Dade County, it is crucial that we prioritize the well-being of our County employees. We greatly appreciate their valuable contributions, and it is our duty to support them during challenging times. Through this legislation, we are alleviating the financial burden of those who are struggling,” said Commissioner Cabrera.

The First-Time Homebuyer Program, as outlined in the resolution, allows County employees to cash out their annual leave, up to a value of $25,000 gross. These funds must be used exclusively for the payment of closing costs and/or down payment for the employee's first home. Additionally, the Emergency Housing Assistance Program provides County employees with the opportunity to cash out their annual leave, with an allowable maximum of $12,000 gross for rent or mortgage payments on a primary residence.
