MIAMI-DADE – The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners has appointed Natalie Milian Orbis to serve as the County Commissioner for District 6, filling the vacancy created by the appointment of former Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Panama.

“I am hitting the ground running,” said Commissioner Milian Orbis. “From day one, I will be focused on delivering results, listening to our community, and making local government more accessible, responsive, and efficient.”

A lifelong public servant and longtime resident of the district, Commissioner Milian Orbis brings nearly two decades of hands-on experience in County government and municipal leadership. She most recently served as Vice Mayor of the City of West Miami, where she championed neighborhood quality of life, senior services, youth civic engagement, and supported first responders.

She thanked her predecessor, now-Ambassador Cabrera, for his example of results-driven leadership: “Commissioner Cabrera rose above politics and focused on what mattered—getting things done. That’s the spirit I intend to carry forward.”

Commissioner Milian Orbis began her County career in 2006, serving in key roles under multiple County Commissioners, where she led and supported initiatives across permitting reform, infrastructure modernization, housing access, and economic development. Through these roles, she helped cut red tape for residents and small businesses, advocated for improvements to County services, and worked directly with constituents to resolve everyday challenges. Her hands-on approach and deep institutional knowledge have earned her a reputation as a dedicated problem-solver and trusted public servant.

Commissioner Milian Orbis emphasized that there will be no interruption in constituent services. Her office will continue to operate from existing locations across the district, and she will begin neighborhood visits in the coming weeks to meet residents directly.

“District 6 is home to vibrant municipalities and unincorporated neighborhoods, all with unique needs and voices,” she added. “My team and I are committed to being proactive and deeply engaged with every corner of our community.”

Commissioner Milian Orbis will serve until the August 2026 election, for which she has already filed to run.
