County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava condemns Cuban regime for discriminating against LGBTQ community
MIAMI-DADE – The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners today unanimously passed legislation condemning Cuba and its communist regime for its homophobic actions and discriminating against the LGBTQ community.
The resolution, sponsored by County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava, urges the President and United States Congress to condemn Cuba and its dictatorial regime for canceling the annual Conga Against Homophobia parade and for denying human rights protections to the LGBTQ community.
In an effort to celebrate their community, LGBTQ activists had planned to host their annual PRIDE parade and celebration earlier this month but were targeted by the Cuban dictatorship and silenced.
“We must speak out when any community is discriminated against,” said Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava. “It is outrageous that so many people have to endure so much hate simply because of who they choose to love. Together we must condemn the discrimination and violence against LGBTQ people in Cuba and elsewhere.”
