Commissioner Levine Cava releases statement on U.S. Supreme Court ruling blocking the citizenship question from Census questionnaire

MIAMI-DADE – County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava today released the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court ruling blocking the citizenship question from the 2020 Census questionnaire:

“Today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling affirmed that the census process will be free from political interference and achieve its purpose to fully account for every person in our nation. The real consequences of this single question rests with undercounting individuals in a community, especially areas like Miami-Dade with a large immigrant population. We can now get out from under the cloud of fear created by this White House and ensure that we properly account for everyone in our community.  A true and accurate census count is critical to securing the proper share of federal funds for transportation, affordable housing, education, nutrition, and health care needs—all of which are vital resources that we need, right here in Miami-Dade. I will be working aggressively with county personnel and community partners to assure that everyone is counted.”
