Statement: Commissioner Levine Cava on White House Briefing Call with Local Leaders
MIAMI-DADE – Following the White House Briefing Call with local leaders from across the nation, Commissioner Levine Cava shared:
“This afternoon I participated on a briefing call organized by the National Association of Counties, led by Doug Hoelscher, Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. Vice President Mike Pence and Dr. Deborah Birx, White House Coronavirus Coordinator, joined Doug where they provided a series of facts and information on the federal government response to the crisis.
“While the information was welcomed, it is frustrating to see the slow response by our federal partners. The delay in testing has added to an already challenged healthcare system and the lack of immediate resources now presents new community challenges.
"The White House did confirm that FEMA is now activated to Level 1. Over 2,000 testing kits have been sent to states with guidance to prioritize testing those with symptoms, first line responders and health care professionals. They also confirmed that over the next 3-5 days we will see a spike in cases and by next week we should have a county by county epidemiology curve to know the impact of individual communities.
“I am committed to gathering as much information as possible to keep the public informed and to ensure we properly confront this threat in a collective and unified front."
