Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins elected Chairwoman of Biscayne Bay Watershed Management Advisory Board

MIAMI-DADE – Today, the Miami-Dade County Biscayne Bay Watershed Management Advisory Board held its first official meeting. At the start of the meeting, County Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins was unanimously elected Chairwoman of the Board, along with Coral Gables Mayor, Vince Lago, as Vice Chairman.

This Board was created in response to Biscayne Bay’s need for advocacy and restoration under the recommendation of the Biscayne Bay Taskforce. Board members have been given the task to provide the Board of County Commissioners with solutions to improve the Bay’s health and determine the future management of the watershed.

“It is an honor to be elected Chairwoman by my dear colleagues. Although this is the work of many, I would like to especially thank Commissioner Rebeca Sosa for being a champion of resiliency and for her tireless work in protecting our Bay, as well as our Chief Bay Officer, Irela Bague, for her guidance and expertise,” said Commissioner Cohen Higgins. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on this important Board to explore and identify meaningful solutions for our precious Bay and marine life.”
