Vice Chairman Kionne L. McGhee Secures Vote on Historic South Dade Sports Complex; Due Diligence and Community Meetings Set to Begin

MIAMI-DADE – In a landmark decision, Vice Chairman Kionne L. McGhee has secured a vote on a resolution to advance the South Dade Sports Complex, a $337 million project spearheaded by VSGS Facilities LLC. This transformative development will bring state-of-the-art sports facilities, community enhancements, and economic growth to Homestead. Due diligence and community engagement sessions are set to begin immediately.

The project is backed by a group of international sports icons, including NBA Hall of Famer Manu Ginobili, alongside prominent figures from soccer, tennis, and business. This multi-sport facility will feature a 10,000-seat soccer stadium, a hotel, student athlete dormitories, sports academies, and other recreational and community-centered amenities.

“This vote is a monumental step forward for South Dade,” said Vice Chairman McGhee. “This project not only promises to invigorate our local economy but also serves as a beacon of opportunity for our youth, fostering talent and community pride in Miami-Dade County.”

Key Features of the South Dade Sports Complex:

Soccer Stadium: A 10,000-seat venue for professional and youth soccer teams.

Sports Training Facilities: A soccer academy, football academy, rugby field, basketball facility, and tennis courts.

Community Enhancements: $44 million in public park and sports improvements funded by VSGS Facilities. Economic Impact: $290 million in projected benefits during construction and $46 million in annual earnings for 610 jobs post-completion.

Environmental Sustainability: A thoughtful design that revitalizes unused land from the Homestead Air Reserve Base.

The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioner’s resolution enables the mayor’s office to begin the due diligence process for a 99-year lease agreement with VSGS Facilities. The proposed site includes 20 acres previously designated for a steel mill that never materialized. The remaining 72 acres for sports fields and academies are located on land adjacent to the Homestead Air Reserve Base.

“This project is a testament to the power of collaboration,” added Vice Chairman McGhee. “From the world-class athletes who have brought their vision to the table to our local stakeholders and residents, we are creating something extraordinary that will resonate for generations.”

The development team includes Argentine sports stars such as Juan Sebastián Verón, Dario Sala, and Marianao Zabaleta, alongside Manu Ginobili, known for his illustrious career with the San Antonio Spurs. The group’s collective expertise underscores the project’s potential to make Homestead a global destination for sports excellence.

Community meetings will be scheduled in the coming weeks to ensure transparency and public input on the project’s next steps.
