Commissioner McGhee secures free cellphones for hundreds of elderly and disabled residents in District 9
MIAMI-DADE – Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee has secured funding to provide cellphones to hundreds of District 9 elderly and disabled residents impacted by the digital divide.
The phones will serve as a critical lifeline for residents, allowing them to schedule transportation to and from doctor’s visits as well as gain access to telemedicine.
The phones will be distributed through community-based healthcare organizations and senior centers. The process will be seamless with the phones given directly to those in need. Residents will receive ongoing customer care during their year of free service, and for those who have concerns about using the technology, tutorials are available, both online and in person.
“I am beyond pleased to be part of an effort to provide District 9 residents with a tool to help provide them with a connection to essential services,” said Commissioner McGhee. “I will continue to work daily to improve the lives of my constituents.”
