Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approve the establishment of the Miami-Redlands Agritourism District in South Miami-Dade County

MIAMI-DADE – With a vote of 10-2, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approved the establishment of the Miami-Redland Agritourism District in South Miami-Dade County, sponsored by District 9 Commissioner Kionne McGhee, during the March 19, Board of County Commissioners meeting.

The Miami-Redland Agritourism District is a visionary initiative that stands to redefine the intersection of agriculture and tourism within our county. By leveraging the rich agricultural heritage and scenic landscapes of the Krome Avenue corridor and Redlands, this district will offer a unique and immersive experience for residents and visitors alike. It will serve as a platform for local farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs to showcase their products and crafts, directly connecting them with consumers.

“The creation of the Miami-Redland Agritourism District in South Miami-Dade County has been a team effort, working with the administration, stakeholders, small farm owners and residents to be able to arrive at a solution that fulfills everyone’s needs and concerns,” said Commissioner McGhee. “I am grateful for my colleagues’ support of this initiative, which represents a significant opportunity, not only for the agricultural community but for our entire region, promising to bring benefits that align with our shared goals for sustainable development and prosperity.”

The Miami-Redland Agritourism District will stimulate economic growth by creating new jobs, generating additional revenue for local businesses, and attracting tourists from across the region and beyond. This influx of visitors will not only benefit the agritourism district itself but also have a positive spillover effect on surrounding businesses and attractions, contributing to a more vibrant and dynamic local economy.
