Street designation for FBI Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger

MIAMI-DADE – On Friday, June 4, Commissioner Javier D. Souto will join Rockway Middle School at 1 p.m. to honor FBI Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger with a street designation ceremony.

The ceremony follows a resolution that was sponsored by Commissioner Souto on March 16, 2021, which designated a portion of SW 93rd Court, from Coral Way to SW 32nd Street, as “Laura Schwartzenberger Way.”

Rockway Middle School made the street naming request to remember the late FBI agent, who was a regular visitor at the school located in Westchester. She is known for teaching students about dangerous encounters on social media. Rockway School released a statement after her death on Feb. 2, 2021, stating, “She would always say, ‘I feel that coming here and talking about the hard stuff means that I won’t see you guys on my end.’” The school also stated that “Laura’s commitment to and dedication to not just Rockway, but the community as a whole, will be missed.”

Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger served with the FBI for 15 years before she was shot and killed while executing a search warrant in Sunrise as part of an investigation.

“It seems that FBI Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger was very popular at Rockway Middle School and that she will be missed,” said Commissioner Souto.
