FREE health screenings, services and safety tips for all residents at Commissioner Joe A. Martinez Annual Health and Safety Expo
MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Joe A. Martinez is inviting all residents of Miami-Dade County to his annual Health & Safety Expo on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition Center, 10901 SW 24th Street, in the E. Darwin Fuchs Pavilion, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In the past, the Expo has brought together more than 1,500 attendees who received free medical screenings and consultations offered by health professionals. More than 100 health and safety exhibitors and service providers will provide the residents of Miami-Dade County with a variety of medical screenings and helpful safety tips. Commissioner Martinez will also be giving families free back packs and back-to-school supplies (while supplies last). Residents are also encouraged to bring their old showerheads and incandescent lightbulbs to exchange for a high-efficiency showerhead and CFL lightbulbs from Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department.
The event is free and open to all Miami-Dade County residents, regardless of age, employment or insurance status. Some of the screenings include screenings for glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol and dental services. FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine will provide breast education and pre-register anyone for screening mammograms AT NO COST to be scheduled at a later date.
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will be available to assist residents in applying for a driver’s license or ID card, vehicle tag renewals and much more. Residents must bring original documents that validate their identity, Social Security number and residential address.
“Health care should be a priority for all residents, but going to a doctor may not be affordable for some of those residents. The Health and Safety Expo offers the residents of our community the opportunity to receive medical attention and advice given by professionals, as well as take the initiative to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” said Commissioner Martinez.
Commissioner Martinez thanks McDonald’s for providing lunch to all the volunteers.
Several Miami-Dade County departments, including Police and Fire, will be providing information on their services. DJ Alex Gutierrez will provide musical entertainment throughout the day with a variety of performers on stage. Be sure to look for McGruff the Police Dog, “Gigi” the Giraffe from Zoo Miami, Billy the Marlin and the Dolphins cheerleaders, who will be walking around greeting everyone.
