MIAMI-DADE – Commissioner Roberto J. Gonzalez honored late Miami-Dade Police Officer Cesar “Echy” Echaverry Jr. with a street naming ceremony for “Ofc. Cesar “Echy” Echaverry Jr. Way,” co-designating a portion of SW 162nd Ave. from SW 56th St. to SW 72nd St. The ceremony took place on Monday, March 20 at John A. Ferguson Senior High School, 15900 SW 56th St., West Kendall, FL 33185.

“No honor can fill the void or dissipate the sorrow of your loss. Yet my sincere hope is that as we raise the name of your son, brother, fiancé, and friend, for all to see, we exalt the memory of his life, his legacy of service, and his ultimate sacrifice,” said Commissioner Gonzalez.

Commissioner Gonzalez thanked many of the esteemed guests for their attendance at the ceremony, including Florida Lt. Governor Jeanette Nuñez, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade Police Department Director & Chief of Safety and Emergency Response Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez, Major Jose Aragu, Major Vanessa Holden, and Captain Ron Rebozo, as well as other law enforcement officials and public service agencies who assisted the Office of Commissioner Roberto J. Gonzalez with making this event possible. Officer Echaverry Jr.’s parents and family members were also in attendance and recognized.

Officer Echaverry Jr. was killed in the line of duty in August 2022. The co-designation of “Officer Cesar “Echy” Echaverry Jr. Way” was made possible by legislation passed on Jan. 17, 2023, by co-prime sponsors, Commissioner Gonzalez and Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee, and members of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners.
