Commissioner Diaz to deliver toys for U.S. Marines’ Toys for Tots campaign

MIAMI-DADE – Playing the part of Santa Claus, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz will help deliver Christmas toys for the United States Marines’ Toys for Tots campaign to benefit local needy children on Saturday, Dec. 14.

The day’s activities will begin at 8:30 a.m., with Commissioner Diaz and a group of U.S. Marines shopping for toys at the Walmart at 8651 NW 13th Terrace in Doral and loading them onto a truck. At 11 a.m., the truck full of toys will depart from his District 12 office at 8345 NW 12th St. The truck will be escorted by members of the Miami-Dade Police Motorcycle Unit, joined on motorcycle by Commissioner Diaz and other bikers, to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Center at 18650 NW 62nd Avenue in Hialeah, where the toys will be hand-delivered to the base commander.

Bikers participating in the ride must bring a new unwrapped toy. The toys collected will benefit children from several organizations and churches whose parents cannot afford to buy toys.

Commissioner Diaz extends a special thank you to following partners: South Florida Police Benevolent Association PBA, International Association Firefighters Union 1403, Adonel Concrete, Walmart Store 2091 in Doral, Truck Max, Rubenstein Law and Cartel Baggers.

Toys for Tots, a national project of the United States Marine Corps Reserve, began in 1947 in Los Angeles.
