MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – Four Miami-Dade County schools that recently received a national award for academic excellence were honored at the Oct. 20 Miami-Dade County Commission meeting.

District 12 Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz joined District 9 Commissioner Dennis C. Moss and District 5 Bruno A. Barreiro in presenting proclamations honoring the schools for receiving the 2015 National Blue Ribbon School award, which annually recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

The four schools were Doral Academy Charter Middle School and Mater Performing Arts & Entertainment Academy from District 12, Coral Reef Senior High School from District 9, and International Studies Charter High School from District 5.

“This award is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the faculty, students and parents of all these great schools,” Commissioner Diaz said.

All four schools will be honored at a recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C., in November.  A total of 335 schools around the country were named 2015 National Blue Ribbon schools.
