Commissioner Diaz calls for alligator and wildlife warning signs in County parks

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – The recent tragic death of a child by an alligator at a lake in Disney World has sparked renewed awareness of the need to alert residents and visitors of Florida’s dangerous aquatic wildlife. Citing the incident, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz is sponsoring legislation calling for the County to install signs in County parks to warn visitors of the possible presence of alligators and other dangerous wildlife. The legislation is scheduled for consideration at the Nov. 1 County Commission meeting.

“The County operates dozens of parks containing lakes and canals, and visitors aren’t always aware of the potential dangers posed by wildlife, so installing warning signs could help prevent the type of tragedy that happened in Disney World,” Commissioner Diaz said.
