County increases fines for transit system violations
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz wants commuters to enjoy a pleasant ride when they use the County’s transit system by cracking down on unwanted violators.
The Miami-Dade County Commission on Nov. 1 gave final approval to an ordinance sponsored by Commissioner Diaz to impose a $100 civil fine in addition to existing criminal penalties for smoking, drinking, fare evasion, disruptive behavior and other violations on the Metrorail, Metrobus or Metromover system.
“Our passengers deserve to expect a clean, safe ride when they use our transit system, and that means zero tolerance for violators,” Commissioner Diaz said.
