Commissioner Diaz advocates for veterans with service-connected total permanent disability

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – The Miami-Dade County Commission on March 6 approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz urging Congress to enact legislation allowing veterans who have a service-connected total permanent disability to travel on the Space Available Program.

The Space Available Program permits U.S. service members, retired U.S. service members and their families to fly for little or no cost on unused seats on Department of Defense-owned or controlled aircraft. But the program currently doesn’t extend to veterans with a service-connected total permanent disability.

“Our nation’s disabled veterans live every day coping with their service-connected disability, and we owe a great debt of gratitude to these selfless veterans,” said Commissioner Diaz, who serves as Chairman of the Miami-Dade Military Affairs Board.
