Commissioner Diaz wants military personnel pay protected during future government shutdowns

MIAMI-COUNTY – The Miami-Dade County Commission on April 10 approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz urging Congress to protect U.S. military personnel and their survivors during any future government shutdowns.

The resolution urges Congress to approve legislation appropriating funds necessary to pay military personnel during future government shutdowns and providing a permanent appropriation for payment of federal death benefits to survivors of deceased members of the uniformed services.

Members of the military and their survivors suffer during government shutdowns by facing uncertainty as to whether they would continue to be paid on a regular basis.

“Our military members and their families are our heroes, and they shouldn’t be made to suffer whenever Congress can’t come to agreement on a budget,” Commissioner Diaz said.
