MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz and the Miami-Dade County Commission presented Korean War veteran Ainslee R. Ferdie with a proclamation honoring Korean War veterans at the June 19 Commission meeting.

The presentation included a color guard ceremony conducted by the Bruce W. Carter Medal of Honor Young Marines.

The Korean War, sometimes called the “Forgotten War,” began 68 years ago on June 25, 1950, when North Korea invaded South Korea. Nearly 40,000 Americans died and more than 100,000 were injured during the war before a ceasefire was signed on July 27, 1953.

“As we honor our Korean War veterans on this anniversary, with the world’s eyes once again focused on Korea, we pray that a lasting peace will finally dawn across the Korean peninsula and the world,” Commissioner Diaz said.
