MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – The Mater Academy Lions won the Commissioners Cup for the fifth year in a row on Oct. 25, remaining undefeated against the Westland Hialeah High Wildcats.

The 35-0 victory at the fifth annual football competition earned the Lions a trophy and a $2,000 check presented by Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz.

Commissioner Diaz, who represents District 12 where Mater Academy is located, sponsored the competition along with Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr. of District 13, which includes Westland Hialeah High.

“Once again, the Lions did District 12 proud by capturing the Commissioners Cup for the fifth straight year!” Commissioner Diaz said. “I also want to thank Westland Hialeah High and Commissioner Bovo for being great sports, shows great comradery among those involved, and everybody had a great time.”
