Commissioner Diaz targets illegal dumping

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County Commission on Sept. 4 approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz to expand the County’s existing illegal dumping public awareness campaign.

The legislation advances the County’s fight against the unlawful disposal of trash in empty lots and other areas, which is a problem in many parts of the county. The County’s Solid Waste Management Department already conducts public awareness and education campaigns about illegal dumping and the penalties for violators, which include prison and vehicle impoundment. The new legislation extends the program to other County departments including Parks, Police, Transportation and Public Works, and Regulatory and Economic Resources, pursuant to a recommendation by the County’s 2017 Illegal Dumping Task Force, which was created by legislation also sponsored by Commissioner Diaz.
