Commissioner Diaz sponsors legislation to delay evictions during a state of emergency
MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz is sponsoring legislation urging the state to automatically delay any pending evictions during a declared state of emergency.
The legislation takes the form of two resolutions. One requests the Florida judicial system to adopt administrative orders requiring judges to automatically stay any writs of possession associated with evictions after the governor or County mayor declares a state of emergency. The other urges the state to adopt a moratorium on evictions during states of emergency. Both are scheduled for consideration at the Oct. 3 County Commission meeting, which will take place at the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW 1st St., beginning at 9:30 a.m.
