Commissioner Diaz demands answers regarding recent flooding

MIAMI-DADE – The Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz is sponsoring legislation urging the South Florida Water Management District to take immediate action to address the flooding disaster that took place in Miami-Dade County over the past two weeks and to immediately issue a report explaining in detail the actions it took in anticipation of the flooding disaster.

The legislation is scheduled for consideration at today’s (June 2) County Commission meeting, which will be held online beginning at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will be carried live on Miami-Dade TV and at miamidade.gov/webcasting.

Beginning on May 22 and continuing into the week of May 25, torrential rainfall pounded Miami-Dade, resulting in some of the worst flooding in decades. In some cases, the flooding was so excessive that storm water not only covered roadways but also flooded residents’ homes and businesses, resulting in significant and unexpected property damage. Some of the worst flooding took place in the far west part of the County, where thousands of residents suffered substantial property damage.
