MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County has donated a fire truck to be used to provide training to Guatemalan firefighters. The foam truck, which came from Miami International Airport’s Aviation Fire Rescue Division and had been declared surplus property by the County due to obsolescence, was loaded onto a cargo ship at PortMiami on June 23 to be transported to Guatemala.

County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz, who sponsored the resolution approving the donation, was joined at the event by a host of officials including Miami-Dade Fire Chief Alan Cominsky, MIA Director Lester Sola, PortMiami Director Juan Kuryla, Doral City Councilman Pete Cabrera, and Consul General Rosa Maria Mérida de Mora of the Consulate of Guatemala in Miami.

“The fire truck will be used to serve the Mundo Maya International Airport and handle emergencies in Guatemala,” Commissioner Diaz said. “A special thank you to Seaboard Marine, Florida Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association, Inc., and A-Customs Brokerage for transporting the fire truck.”

Guatemalan President Alejandro E. Giammattei thanked Commissioner Diaz and the County for the donation in a video.
