MIAMI-DADE – On Sept. 8, Chairman Jose "Pepe" Diaz, the Mayor of the City of Sweetwater and members of the commission joined a who’s who of sports figures as organizers announced plans for Destination Sport Miami, a proposal to build the largest indoor, multi-sport facility in North America — right here in District 12.

“This facility will really have it all for athletes of all ages and families to enjoy. It's going to be a game changer for District 12 in Miami-Dade,” Chairman Diaz said of the destination that’s meant to draw locals and people from across the world.

The facility, which would encompass nearly a million square feet on land near TopGolf Doral, would offer more than 200 full-time jobs at Destination Sport, in addition to jobs from businesses such as restaurants, cafes, stores and offices. It would feature two hockey rinks, 18 basketball courts, 36 volleyball courts, 11 tennis courts, and a 50-meter Olympic pool, among a string of amenities. The athletes affiliated with the facility represent an array of sports: Bryan Trottier (hockey), Randy Moss (football), Jill Ellis (soccer), Glenn Rice (basketball) and Livan Hernandez (baseball).
