MIAMI-DADE – Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz and the United States Marines had a successful weekend by collecting over $50,000 worth of toys for the United States Marines’ Toys for Tots campaign.
The campaign kicked off on Friday when Chairman Diaz and several U.S. Marines went shopping at the Walmart Supercenter #2091 in Doral and purchased toys for the Toys for Tots campaign and on Saturday, Dec. 11, the public continued donating at the Toys for Tots’ toy collection event at Tropical Park. The free event at Tropical Park included live music performances, carnival food and a car and motorcycle show. Families and children who attended were also able to take a picture with Santa Claus.
“I would like to thank my colleagues, all the sponsors and everyone involved in making this campaign a true success,” said Chairman Diaz. “Due to the kindness of people in Miami-Dade County, this Christmas will be extra special for the children in our community and their families.”
Toys for Tots is a national project of the United States Marine Corps Reserve. It began in 1947 in Los Angeles. The campaign benefits less fortunate children in the community.
