Chairman Diaz sponsors legislation to benefit Ukrainian relief efforts

MIAMI-DADE – Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz recently returned from Poland where he saw the relief efforts being implemented by the Global Empowerment Mission and visited first-hand with Ukrainian refugees. To help with the relief efforts, Chairman Diaz sponsored a resolution that passed at the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, April 19, which allows County employees to contribute the monetary value of their accrued holiday and annual leave time to the Global Empowerment Mission (“GEM”) and World Central Kitchen (“WCK”).

“This County has always supported those who need help. I was able to visit Poland and see first-hand what these organizations are doing to help the Ukraine refugees and to ensure that the money is being properly used,” said Chairman Diaz.

Global Empowerment Mission is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, based in Doral, that was founded in 2011 as a first responder to global disasters. World Central Kitchen is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was founded by world-renowned chef, José Andrés, to provide meals on the frontlines in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. Together with local chefs in the region, they have served millions of fresh meals to Ukrainian families fleeing their homes as well as to people remaining in the country.
