County Commission approves Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo, Jr.’s resolution supporting coastal beach renourishment

MIAMI – On April 9, 2019, the Miami-Dade County Commission approved Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo Jr.’s resolution urging the Florida Legislature to enact SB 446, HB 325, or similar legislation making similar amendments to Florida’s coastal management laws.

“Beaches play a critical role in the environment of Miami-Dade County,” Commissioner Bovo said. “Providing habitat to diverse varieties of plants and animals and also protecting inland habitats against storms and as prime tourist attractions, beaches also play a critical role in our economy. That is why I am proud that the County Commission approved my beach renourishment resolution that funds priorities for beach management and erosion-control projects, plans for the restoration and maintenance of the state’s critically eroded beaches, and requires the plan to include a strategic beach management plan. Growing our economy and protecting our environment are endeavors that must go hand in hand in our county.”
