County Commission approves Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo, Jr.’s resolution supporting the decision of the United States Department of Treasury’s OFAC to sanction Cuban state-run company for importing oil from Venezuela
MIAMI–DADE – On July 23, 2019, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approved Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo, Jr.’s resolution supporting the decision of the United States Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control to sanction Cubametales, the Cuban state-run oil company, for its illegal importation of oil from Venezuela.
“As Nicolás Maduro illegitimately continues to present himself as the president of Venezuela, Cuba, in exchange for oil, further supports the criminal Maduro regime,” Commissioner Bovo said. “Cuba’s support continues to strengthen the Maduro regime and maintain the regime’s control over the increasingly impoverished Venezuelan people. I thank my colleagues for approving my resolution endorsing OFAC’s decision to sanction Cubametales for its continued illicit importation of oil from Venezuela. Increasing pressure against Nicolás Maduro’s illegitimate dictatorship and its foreign enablers is critical to restoring freedom and democracy to the freedom-seeking people of Venezuela.”
