Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo, Jr. issues the following public statement about Odebrecht

MIAMI-DADE – “The continuous reports of Odebrecht’s scandals throughout the Americas are egregious yet not surprising. Since the beginning of my tenure as a County Commissioner, I have continuously expressed my disapproval of the County contracting with Odebrecht – an entity that puts its economic interest before freedom and human rights as evidenced in their collaboration with the Castro regime,” said Miami-Dade County Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo, Jr. “In 2012, I sponsored legislation to place a non-binding straw ballot on the 2012 general election ballot asking whether the electors support prohibiting further use of taxpayers’ dollars to procure services and projects from companies actively doing business with state sponsors of terrorism. The question ultimately passed with 62.42% of the vote. Following a recent Miami Herald article regarding Odebrecht’s involvement with the Cuban dictatorship, I welcome an investigation regarding the company’s business practices locally.”
