Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo, Jr., reiterates concerns related to increased tolling in Miami-Dade County

MIAMI-DADE – Starting today, toll collection began on the SR-826 Palmetto Express Lanes in both directions between West Flagler Street and NW 154th Street, and along I-75 from the Palmetto to NW 170th Street. At the moment, Florida Department of Transportation officials have said there is no cap on the tolls, and the price will change depending on traffic flow.  However, drivers will pay a minimum of 50 cents per segment.

“As I’ve previously reiterated, residents continue to face massive gridlock as their  quality of life continues to diminish due to long hours on our expressways.” Commissioner Bovo said. “Miami-Dade’s workforce is the backbone of our community. Anything that hinders their ability to contribute to our vibrant economy must be reevaluated. This new implementation of tolls will create an additional burden for Miami-Dade taxpayers, as they’ll be forced to pay more in tolls. I encourage state officials and legislators to revisit this measure and the burdens it places on our daily commuters.” Commissioner Bovo said.
