County Commission approves Commissioner Bovo’s resolution urging FDOT to eliminate toll lanes on State Road 826

MIAMI-DADE – On November 19, 2019, the Board of County Commissioners approved Commissioner Esteban L. Bovo Jr.’s resolution opposing the implementation of managed toll lanes, commonly known as express lanes, on State Road 826/Palmetto Expressway, and urging the Florida Department of Transportation to eliminate said managed toll lanes.

“Residents in my district have expressed significant concerns regarding the uncapped costs associated with the new managed toll lanes,” Commissioner Bovo said. “They have also expressed frustration regarding what appears to be increased traffic congestion along State Road 826 stemming from limited access onto the express lanes, and the elimination or narrowing of toll-free lanes. The lanes are also impacting the ability for goods and services to get to market, not to mention the quality of life in those stuck in traffic. I thank my colleagues for expressing opposition of the express lanes on the Palmetto Expressway and urging FDOT to eliminate said managed lanes to restore the Palmetto Expressway to a toll-free expressway.”
