MIAMI-DADE – Commissioner René García brought the District 13 community together with the annual Family Wellness Picnic, offering free medical screenings, access to local resources, entertainment, food, and much more on Saturday, May 18, at Hialeah Park Casino.

The annual Family Wellness Picnic, a testament to the community's commitment to health, was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Commissioner García and local medical providers, Mount Sinai, United Home Health Care and Florida Blue. This partnership allowed residents to receive a wide range of medical screenings, including cardiology, cardiothoracic, urology, oncology, and more. The event's primary focus is to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining good health, which is crucial for the well-being of communities countywide.

The Family Wellness Picnic is not only about health and well-being, but also about celebrating the vibrant community of District 13. It is a time for families and friends to come together, enjoy live music, indulge in free food and beverages, participate in fun activities, and have a chance to win exciting raffles.

"It started off with a little picnic event that we used to do in Amelia Earhart Park, just to say thank you. The picnic morphed into this big community event as a way of giving back," said Commissioner García. " Good Health is the most important thing we possess. The best thing anyone can do for their family is to take care of themselves. It’s important to make sure you get regular physical checkups, if you are healthy, you can take care of others. It's not just about the individual; it's also about our families. The only way that we will be around for a long time to provide for our families is if we take care of ourselves first."

Commissioner García encourages residents to contact the District 13 office at 305-820-8424 to learn more and ask questions regarding available County resources.
